MCALEVEY--Catherine B., 57, of Saratoga Springs and Greenwich Village, NYC, adored life partner of Debra Hall, beloved daughter of John F. and Marlene McAlevey of New York; devoted niece of Sister Mary Janetta of Brooklyn, New York; loving sister of Birgitta B. McAlevey of Sharon, Massachusetts, and Jane McAlevey of San Francisco, California, Peter C. McAlevey of Los Angeles, California, Benedict McAlevey of Jupiter, Florida; John B. McAlevey of Buffalo, New York, and Thomas M. McAlevey of Stockholm, Sweden, Mitchell J. Rotbert of Rockville, Maryland, and Clifford A. Rotbert, of New York; aunt of 17 nieces and nephews. Catherine was raised in a family of activists and community builders. She was passionate about the positive role of government and determined to show that any government could work with savvy leadership. Catherine was a devoted horse race aficionado and loved travelling the world. She passed away Saturday, April 13th, after a brave battle with breast cancer. She spent her last days surrounded by family and friends, who had arrived from as far away as California, Florida, and Sweden. Served as Deputy Commissioner of Operations for New York City's Human Resources Administration's Department of Social Services; Director of the Office of Oversight and Investigation for NYC Council Speaker Peter Vallone; Assistant District Attorney in Rockland County, NY. Born June 12, 1955 in New York City, raised in Sloatsburg, NY. Attended Sacred Heart School, Suffern High School, Buffalo State University and the State University of New York at Stonybrook. 1980 graduate of Benjamin Cardozo Law School. Funeral, St. Joseph's Church, 371 Avenue of the Americas at Washington Place in Greenwich Village, NYC, Thursday, April 18, 3 pm. Private burial being planned. Family requests flowers be sent to Greenwich Village Funeral Home, 199 Bleeker Street, NYC.
